Business Owner of the Year

Mary Liz Curtin, co-owner of the funky Leon & Lulu’s store inside a former roller rink on 14 Mile just west of Main Street, won “Business owner of the year”; and Curtin’s newer business, a coffee shop and restaurant housed in a former movie theater with a preserved marquee outside, won in a category called “Celebrating Main Street,” which recognizes businesses that showcase the old-time aura of traditional American downtowns. The program was held in downtown Pontiac’s Flagstar Strand Theatre, whose owners won top honors last year for beautifully restoring the 1921 movie house.
