On April 1, 2006, Mary Liz and Stephen opened Leon & Lulu in the former Ambassador Skating Rink in Clawson, against the advice of many business professionals and Mary Liz’s mother.
They remortgaged the house and sunk everything they had into the building, the renovation, and not enough inventory to fill it.
15 years later Leon & Lulu is a multi-award-winning retailer known internationally for visual merchandising, innovative marketing, and a varied and interesting product assortment. They expanded to the movie theater next door and opened Three Cats Restaurant.
No longer is there a shortage in inventory. The store is filled with great things from across the globe.
The kids made it through college, the mortgage is paid off and ML and Stephen are still happily married.
