Mark Brown
Thank you for the time, Mr. Roboto! These quirky, one-of-a-kind desk clocks are a sculptural collage of vintage tins, soda cans, bottle caps and utensils and oodles of character. Created by Mark Brown, these functional and humorous works of art will have you always checking the time-just to get one more peek at your funny metal man (or woman). Handmade in Massachusetts. Each piece is one of a kind and will vary. Mark Brown makes fun, one-of-a-kind mixed media sculptures and clocks in his backyard studio in Easthampton, Massachusetts. Trained as a painter, he has worked on canvas for 25 years, and his interest in color, pattern and figurative imagery can be seen in this current body of three-dimensional work. Each of his pieces is a unique, stylized and engaging character. Brown’s pieces have a great energy because they come mostly from things people have used and then thrown away. Brown also looks for materials at flea markets, and friends and neighbors donate items such as a box full of Cuban cigar tins and scores of record albums. All this junk ends up in Brown’s studio, a treasury of what are commonly considered undesirables. Brown creates whimsical clocks out of items he finds. The vivid timekeepers, which for the most part bear human or animal faces with Cheshire-cat grins. Stop in Leon & Lulu to see Mark’s work and pick out one of your own, one of a kind clock!
