Leon & Lulu’s 5th Birthday is April 1st

April 1st marks the fifth anniversary of the opening of Leon & Lulu, which moved into and remodeled the former Ambassador Roller Rink and created a small-business success story for a metropolitan Detroit neighborhood. As part of the fifth year celebrations, the one-store location is going national with the opening of their online destination at www.leonandlulu.com to offer an ever-growing selection of gifts, home accents and personal accessories.
National recognition for the success of Leon & Lulu has contributed to the rejuvenation of this small community and has focused on the importance of entrepreneurs in creating jobs and restoring community landmarks.
This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the actual building. The roller skates are still inside the building at 96 West 14 Mile Road in Clawson, Michigan except that for the last five years they have been hanging on the walls as reminders of the building's history.
A birthday party on Friday, April 1st will kick-off the month-long celebration of the fifth anniversary of the opening of Leon & Lulu. As owner Mary Liz Curtin explains, "The Ambassador Roller Rink was the site of many great parties so we feel that we are continuing that tradition at Leon & Lulu, with most of the events here supporting local charities.”
Kicking off the fifth year celebrations on Friday, April 1st will be the LET THEM EAT CAKE! Pro-Am Baking Extravaganza benefiting the American Diabetes Association. As an April Fools’ twist, all desserts must be delicious and sugar free. Amateur bakers as well as professional pastry chefs will compete to win prizes.
